I got "Missing of failed printhead" message on my LCD display. I installed new printhead and all new cartridges from HP and still get that message.  I have followed the instructions to reseat the printhead three times or more and still have the error message.  How can I fix this?

Hi @pvanc,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are getting an error message “The print head appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed" on your HP printer.

Please follow the steps listed below:

1. Reset the HP Printer

1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

3. Wait 60 seconds.

4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

5. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

2. Reseat the HP Printer’s Printhead

1. Some users might need to reset the printer’s printhead. Users need to open the cartridge access door by pulling the slot forward to the left of the printer.

2. Pull the power cable out from the back of the printer to unplug it, ensuring that the carriage will not move in any way.

3. Next, lift the latch on the right of the carriage.

4. Pull the printhead slightly out of the carriage, but don’t altogether remove it from the carriage.

5. Then place the printhead firmly back into its carriage so it’s fully seated.

6. Remember to flick the carriage latch down before closing the cartridge access door.

7. Then users can insert the power cable back into the printer.

8. Turn the printer on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Rainbow23,

I can't tell you how many times I have done all your instructions, over and over and still end up with Missing or failed printhead. I purchased a new printhead and all new cartridges and installed and reseated the printhead several times so I am out the money for the printhead and the new ink but still get the same error message.  I have a new printer coming and will have to dispose of this nice printer.  Thanks for trying.
