I have HP ENVY Photo 7855 I am trying to setup for a client. They previosuly told me they were not able to get it working when they attempted to set it up themselves so they called geek squad. Geek squad was able to get as far as installing the drivers and getting the wifi connected however the Printer was still not functional.
First thing I notice was the lack of ink cartridges loaded in the printer, this was not an issue as they said they had bought new cartridges in antipication of my arival. The new cartridges are installed however I get an error message stating "Use SETUP cartridges that came with your printer." My client tells me that they did not recieve or notice the setup cartridges durning setup. Unfortunately they no longer have any of the orrginal packaging.
After some research on my part I found that a support menu can be accessed to bypass this screen but this has not proven to be fruitful in getting me any further in this setup. I go to Support Menu > System Configuration Menu > Set boot mode to user mode and hit OK. Next I am told to press the cancle button to continue. This should be the softkey cancle button (Shaped like an X) but the HP ENVY Photo 7855 lacks this softkey. There is an X button on the LCD screen but this only brings me back a menu.
Next I attempted to update the firmware to the latest firmware version while the ENVY Photo 7855 is still asking for the setup cartrages. The firmware update tool tells me the USB stats is busy. Attempts to update the firmware in the busy state only result in failure. I was hoping this would maybe update the Support Menu with an boot mode option which works.
Finally I see that the setup cartridges may be apart of a anti-theft method for the supply chain and the setup cartridges are paired with the printer. If this is the case what are my options into correcting this issue.
Thanks

Figgure it out thanks to the folks over at hp chat. If you care to bypass the setup press the following softkeys in this order. Home > Back > Back > Home then open the printer cartridge door and close it, setup should continue after that. If not just try the same steps again. Not sure why this information was such a pain to find but there you have it. Hope it helps.
