@JonnaG,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues with print quality as yellow does not print. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
  • Did you check the cartridge ink levels?
  • Did you make copies directly from the printer?
  • Did you try another set of cartridges?

For now, try these steps:

Let me keep you posted that the evidence points to a cartridge issue and this is only an attempt to try and resolve the issue. If it does not work then the faulty cartridge needs to be replaced by contacting HP phone support.

Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2DQhfxj and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer

Then make 2 copies in color with some yellow on it directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

If it fails to copy correctly then these steps:

  • Perform all the prescribed steps from this link: https://hp.care/2zN8wZ1 (HP DeskJet GT 5810, 5820 Printers - Color or Black Ink Not Printing; Other Print Quality Issues)
  • Step 1: Use genuine HP printheads and ink
  • Step 2: Refill any low or empty ink tanks
  • Step 3: Check for ink smears on the back of printouts
  • Step 4: Check the ink delivery system
  • Step 5: Make sure you are using the appropriate paper for your print job
  • Step 6: Check the print settings
  • Step 7: Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page
  • Step 8: Run the printhead cleaning utility using the HP Software
  • Step 9: Align the printheads using the HP software
  • Step 10: Replace the printheads

Now check if it prints in yellow. If the issue continues, please evaluate and analyze the Print quality Diagnostic report for faded and missing colors. If yellow is still missing, then contact HP phone support to get the faulty ink cartridge replaced.

This should do the trick for you as long as the printer’s hardware is not faulty. Otherwise, the printer needs to be replaced. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
