My 6230 office jet pro printer stopped working. The power button keeps flashing rapidly. I can push any other buttons. I’ve tried unplugging and holding power button for 30 seconds and it turns on the same way. There is no paper jam. The print cartridges won’t move now. It’s been a great printer and all of a sudden won’t work. Can anyone help me please.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6230 is stuck in an error state. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.

Step 2: Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

  1. Open the printer and inspect for any paper jams or debris.
  2. Ensure the print carriage can move freely. If it’s stuck, gently move it to the center.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

  1. Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. If the printer powers on normally, check for firmware updates on the HP Support website.
  2. Install the latest firmware to ensure the printer operates correctly.

Let me know how it goes!

Hawks_Eye….number one step worked. Thank you so much. We don’t use our printer all the time should I always keep it plugged in and on or can I shut it off and unplug it.  I appreciate all your help. Thank you so so much.

Hi @BAP73

You are most Welcome!

I’m so glad the power reset worked for you! That’s great news. 😊

Since you don’t use your printer all the time, it’s perfectly fine to turn it off when not in use. However, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Should You Keep Your Printer Plugged In?

Turning it off is okay – Modern printers are designed to handle power cycles without issues.
Unplugging occasionally is fine – If you won’t be using it for an extended period (weeks or months), unplugging can help prevent power surges.
Leave it plugged in if using regularly – If you print often, keeping it plugged in allows automatic maintenance cycles to prevent ink drying.

If you ever run into another issue, I’m here to help! 🚀 Thanks for your kind words—I really appreciate it. 😊

Take care, and stay fantastic!
