HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I have a OfficeJet 6960 - The display screen is white (Firmware problem), yet it didn't prevent me from printing until now. But lately I the printer will not print with a "Offline" notice in the print queue menu, also I have noticed that the indicator(?) lights on the left are off.

I've replace the USB cable

I've tried hard reset - I disconnected the printer for a minute, I pushed the On/Off button (while disconnected) connected it again keeping the button pushed for 15+ sec. All the lights went steadily on again but then off when I pushed one of them.

is there something else I can do myself?

Is there something you can do remotely?

Should I buy an Epson now?

Thanks,

Ido

@IdoSimhi, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 is showing a white display (likely firmware-related), won’t print, and the indicator lights are off. You've already tried a hard reset and replaced the USB cable, great first steps!

Let’s walk through a few more steps to isolate and potentially resolve the issue:

Power Reset (Extended Method)

Try a deeper power drain:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Remove any USB or Ethernet cables.
  • Wait 2–3 minutes.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power on the printer.

If the display remains white and lights stay off, proceed to the next step.

Check for USB Port or Power Board Failure

Since the lights go off after pressing a button, this could indicate a power board or control panel failure. Try:

  • Connecting the printer to a different USB port or another PC.
  • Use a different power outlet.

If the printer still shows no signs of life beyond the initial light-up, it may need service.

Try Printing via HP Smart App (Wireless or USB)

If the printer was previously working despite the white screen, try printing via the HP Smart App:

  • Download: HP Smart
  • Add your printer manually via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Try a test print.

If the printer shows Offline, follow this guide: HP Printer Offline Issues - How to Fix | HP® Support

Firmware Recovery (If Possible)

If the printer is detected by your PC, you may be able to force a firmware update:

  • Go to: Official HP® Support
  • Download the latest firmware update utility.
  • Run it with the printer connected via USB.

If the printer is not detected, this step may not work.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
