Ok, Just hooked up my new 8710.  I think I am hitting all the marks for double sided printing, but it only prints one side.

Places to look for the solution include (and are not necessarily limited to) the following.

In GENERAL, assuming the Full Feature Software is installed (and the Firmware when applicable) -- Duplex is controlled / selected within the application you are using to submit the job to the printer.

Preparation and Setup

Printer Software - Installation

NOTE:  If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before starting the installation.  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (toward the end of the installation procedure).

Download, save, and install the Full Feature Software for your Operating System version

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Video help

NOTE:  Videos may be found in one or more locations (depending on printer / software / version)

Open the printer’s Software and Drivers page >

Scroll down and select Related Videos > Click View All >

Find and view the relevant video

OR

Open the printer’s Homepage >

Scroll down and select Video Tutorials > Click View All >

Find and view the relevant video

Firmware

Consider installing the printer Firmware

READ (when provided) all instructions before installing the firmware

If / After the firmware is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Reminders

  • Firmware is only updated after the printer software is installed / functional.
  • There are more software packages available for your printer on the Software and Drivers support page.

Checks / Setup / Verification

Specifications > Paper Handling

  • Plain paper is supported for duplex (Tray Capacities)
  • Paper of specific sizes is supported for duplex (Paper Sizes)
  • Paper requires a border (white space) (Print Margins)

Duplex feature installed?  (Model Dependent)

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click Printer > Printer Properties > tab Device Settings >

Under Installable Options > Automatic Duplexing Unit > Select / Verify Installed > OK

How-to

From How to > Print > Instructions & Settings:

How to Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Windows) (Duplexing)

and

 Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)

Printing Documents (Windows)

Reminder:  Some combinations are not allowed.

For example, if you select an "illegal" combination of duplex, Media type, and Paper Size, the "not allowed" setup will be marked with a tiny yellow triangle   Yellow_Status.png

  • Select Media type (kind of paper)
  • Select Source (select tray as opposed to leaving "automatic" - wording varies)
  • Select Size of Paper
  • Select (in Advanced - as available) "Duplex" (wording varies)
  • Adhere to Margin restrictions as explained in the Specifications
