My HP 209 dw laserjet printer keeps saying there is a paper jam even though I took out the jammed paper already. What do I do?

Hi @Elena1969,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be some residual paper stuck in the printer's sensors or mechanisms, triggering the error message. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot the issue.

  • Turn off the printer: Before doing anything, make sure the printer is turned off to prevent any accidents or damage.
  • Inspect the printer: Open all access doors and trays and visually inspect the printer for any torn or jammed pieces of paper. Be thorough, as even small shreds of paper can cause issues.
  • Remove any jammed paper: If you find any paper stuck in the printer, gently remove it by pulling it in the direction it would normally travel through the printer. Avoid tearing the paper, as this could leave behind small fragments.
  • Check the paper path: Use a flashlight to carefully examine the paper path inside the printer. Look for any obstructions such as torn bits of paper, foreign objects, or debris. Remove any obstacles you find.
  • Clean the printer: Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from inside the printer, especially around the paper path and rollers. Be careful not to shake the can too vigorously, as this could damage sensitive components.
  • Reset the printer: After ensuring the printer is clean and free of obstructions, close all doors and trays and turn the printer back on. Sometimes, simply resetting the printer can resolve the issue.
  • Update firmware and drivers: Make sure your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause compatibility issues or bugs that lead to false error messages.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the paper jam error on your HP LaserJet printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
