Hi @Stiteler,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 indicates that the printer is having trouble recognizing or using the printhead. This issue can be caused by a few different factors, including a faulty printhead, improper installation, or connectivity issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Turn Off the Printer

  • Power Down:
    1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
    2. Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for at least 60 seconds.

2. Inspect the Printhead

Open the Printer:

  1. Open the printer’s front panel or access door where the printhead is located. This usually involves lifting the scanner unit or the paper tray.

Remove the Printhead:

  1. Carefully remove the printhead from its slot. Follow the instructions in the printer’s manual for proper removal.

Check for Damage:

  1. Inspect the printhead for any visible damage or debris. Look for any signs of leaks or physical damage.

3. Clean the Printhead Contacts

Clean Printhead Contacts:

  1. Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printhead connects.
  2. Avoid using excessive liquid to prevent damage.

Dry Completely:

  1. Allow the printhead and contacts to dry completely before reinstalling.

4. Reinstall the Printhead

  • Reinstall the Printhead:
    1. Reinsert the printhead into its slot, making sure it is securely and properly seated.
    2. Close the access door or panel.

5. Check for Firmware Updates:

  1. Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model.
  2. Download and install any available firmware updates. Firmware updates can fix various issues and improve printer functionality.

6. Run Printer Diagnostics

  1. Use the printer’s control panel to access diagnostic or troubleshooting tools. Look for options to test or align the printhead.

7. Reset the Printer:

  1. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a minute.
  2. Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

8. Replace the Printhead

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
