Hi @Sapphire963,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Paper Type and Size Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings match the paper type and size you have loaded. You might need to adjust the printer settings to recognize the paper in Tray 1 as A4.
  • On the printer control panel, go to Menu > Setup > Tray Setup and verify the settings for Tray 1.

Check Paper Placement:

  • Remove the paper from Tray 1 and inspect it. Make sure the paper edges are not bent or crumpled and reinsert it aligning it properly within the tray guides.
  • Confirm that you are using plain A4 paper and that it is inserted print-side up.

Address Paper Size Mismatch:

  • Sometimes, paper size mismatch settings in the print job can trigger this error. Ensure that your print job settings in the application you are using specify A4 size paper.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for a minute. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear error messages.

Check for Blockages:

  • Inspect the tray and paper path for any obstructions or blockages that could affect paper sensing.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Check HP's website to download the latest updates for your printer.

Perform a Cold Reset:

  • If the issue persists, perform a cold reset of your printer. Consult your printer’s manual for instructions on executing a cold reset, which may involve navigating specific steps on the control panel.

Review Control Panel Messages:

  • Refer to any additional messages on the printer’s control panel or follow prompts that might guide you to resolve the error.

I hope this helps.
