Hi @gautamchawla,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're looking to access the BIOS setup on a computer, which is a crucial step for making hardware changes, boot order adjustments, or accessing advanced system settings. The process you've outlined is a common method for entering the BIOS or UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) setup utility on many PCs. Here's a general guide on how to do it:
Turn on or Restart Your Computer: If your computer is already on, you might need to perform a restart. This ensures that the system is in a state to recognize the command to enter the BIOS setup.
Press the ESC Key: Immediately after powering on, start pressing the ESC key repeatedly. The timing can be critical; you should start pressing as soon as anything appears on the screen, or even before, to ensure you don't miss the brief window during which the computer accepts the command to enter its setup utility.
Access the Startup Menu: By pressing the ESC key, you're instructing the system to bring up the Startup Menu. This menu can vary in appearance and options based on the manufacturer of your motherboard or computer.
Press F10 to Enter BIOS Setup: Once in the Startup Menu, you should see an option to enter the BIOS Setup Utility, often accessed by pressing the F10 key. However, this can vary; some systems might use F1, F2, DEL, or another key. There should be an on-screen prompt indicating the correct key to press.
Navigate the BIOS Setup Utility: After successfully pressing the required key, you'll be taken to the BIOS Setup Utility. This interface allows you to configure hardware settings, manage boot priorities, enable or disable system components, and perform other critical tasks. Navigation is typically done using the keyboard arrows, with specific keys (often displayed at the bottom of the screen) used for selecting, editing, and saving changes.
Important Notes:
- The process can vary slightly based on the specific motherboard or computer manufacturer. If the above steps don't work, consult your computer or motherboard's user manual for the correct key combination.
- Making changes in the BIOS setup can significantly affect your computer's operation. Be cautious and make sure you understand the implications of changes you make.
- If you're unsure or need to perform a specific task, consider seeking guidance or assistance from someone experienced with BIOS configurations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
