I amhaving the same problen. After multiple tries, I cannot get my HP Envy 7640 to accept the 62XL ink cartridges as correctly installed. What do I do? I have tried to reset my printer with no luck. It will accept the empty one.

Don't worry, I'm here to help! To better assist you - Are you enrolled in the Instant Ink program?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps -
1) Take out the cartridges.
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
For the steps to clean the cartridges, refer to soluton# 3, 4 and 5 from this document.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
