My new HP laser jet MFP M140we stopped printing today: the "attention" light keeps blinking even though the printer status says "ready". When I hit the print button, it doesn't print, then it goes back to "offline" status. I hit the "start copy/resume" button on the printer and it prints a generic copy, but it will not print from my computer (Windows 11, OS). It was working two days ago, nothing has changed. I unplugged everything, turned printer off and on several times, disconnected my router, nothing cleared the problem. Any suggestions?

Hi @gc1942,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already tried some basic troubleshooting steps. However, let's go through a more comprehensive list of troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M140we.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer through a USB cable or network connection.
  • If you are using a network connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off both your computer and the printer.
  • Power them back on after a few minutes and check if the issue persists.

Printer Queue:

  • Open the print queue on your computer and check if there are any pending print jobs.
  • If there are, try canceling or removing them and then try printing again.

Printer Software:

  • Make sure that the printer software and drivers are installed correctly on your computer.
  • Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

Check Printer Status:

  • Open the Devices and Printers window on your computer.
  • Right-click on your HP printer and ensure that it is set as the default printer.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. If so, update the firmware.

Paper and Toner:

  • Ensure that there is enough paper in the printer tray.
  • Check the toner levels to ensure that they are not too low.

Reset Printing System (Mac):

  • If you are using a Mac, you can try resetting the printing system. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click in the printer list, and choose "Reset printing system." Afterward, re-add your printer.

Firewall/Antivirus Software:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software and check if it allows printing. If it does, you may need to adjust the settings of your security software.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Uninstall the printer from your computer and then reinstall it using the latest drivers from the HP website.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date by checking for and installing any available updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
