My HP Laserjet1217 gives a 'Default, Error' message when trying to print. USB cable is good. Both Printer and Computer have been shutdown and rebooted. Removed printer and then added same printer.

I understand your HP LaserJet 1217 is showing a “Default, Error” message when trying to print. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this:

Set the printer as the default device
On your computer, go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
Right-click the HP LaserJet 1217 and select Set as default printer.

Clear the print queue
Open the printer queue and cancel any stuck print jobs.
Sometimes a stuck job triggers the “Default, Error” message.

Check USB connection
Even though the cable is good, try connecting it to a different USB port.
Ensure it’s directly connected to the computer, not through a hub.

Reinstall the printer driver
Uninstall the current driver completely.
Download and install the latest HP LaserJet 1217 driver from the HP support site.

Run Windows Printer Troubleshooter
On your computer, go to Settings → Troubleshoot → Printer.
Follow the prompts to detect and fix any configuration issues.

Test printing
After completing the above steps, print a test page.
The “Default, Error” message should no longer appear if the printer is correctly recognized.

Check for firmware updates
If the printer still shows the error, check the HP site for any firmware updates that address USB or print queue errors.
