I have just replaced a new black HP 902 300-page ink recently for HP Office Jet Pro 6978 printer and it prints blank page since then (I do not use color print). This is only the second black ink I bought since I bought this printer. The first ink I bought is non-HP 800-page ink, which worked fine. I don't use printer often. Usually I use it around tax season. I thought HP's ink should have less issue comparing with non-HP ink.

I have searched for this issue. I was not alone. However, I haven't solved this issue yet. The issue is not related to how I connect my desktop PC to printer. No matter through WiFi, Ethernet cable or USB cable, it simply prints out blank page. The printhead is very clean. There is no messy ink around that area. Somebody says that power may not enough. I unplugged all other equipment from power stripe, except for PC, monitor and printer. Still it doesn't help.

I have tried to print from my HP desktop PC and my Acer laptop PC, both with Windows10. Same result. It prints out a blank page. Estimated cartridge level show this ink has most of ink (I don't understand why this brand new ink cartridge is not full).

What I can do? What else I can try? The issue is on cartridge side or printer side?

The third-party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it is not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

 

And HP does not guarantee the printer functionality upon using the non-HP ink.

 

If you have already performed the steps from the document Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

 

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

However your answer can't convince me. You said "And HP does not guarantee the printer functionality upon using the non-HP ink." My situation is that the first ink I bought is black  non-HP 800-page ink, which worked fine. The second ink I bought is black HP 902 ink, which prints blank page. The printing blank page started after I bought HP 902 ink. The printer worked fine until the previous non-HP run out of ink. It didn't print out a single blank page. The last pages printed out have light ink, but not blank.

The use of non-HP ink might have damaged the ink system to not accept the HP ink cartridges.
