I was trying to print a piece of cover art directly from my printer and had an ink out message. I replaced my cartridge with the correct HP black ink cartridge, made sure it was properly seated in the printer, received another ink out message for the blue cartridge, which was showing viable before replacing the black, replaced the blue cartridge, double checked its seating, and now the printer is printing horribly messy images of my cover art. I tried printing it from an iPhone but had the same results. I tried cleaning the print head via the tool doctor, with mixed print head results. At first it printed a very broken image, then printed a much better image with muddled color bars, then it printed the original broken image with a pool of black on some of the script lines.

Overall, nothing has changed with the color cover art other than the black seems to be missing and the yellow, which is nearly full, is also missing. The printer was also making a clacking noise when it was first trying to 'organize' itself after loading the new black cartridge, then it made a sound like gears slipping when I did a printer head alignment as a possible fix.

Just to review:

2 new HP cartridges, 1 black, 1 blue, checked and double checked their installation, cleaned and aligned the print head, and getting a muddled print image with no apparent black color, the blue is showing well, and there is no yellow, though the yellow cartridge is almost full and was replaced with an HP cartridge when it was done.
