My HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 All-in-One printer won't allow me to print in black and white

I replaced the black and white cartridge but the printer wont allow me to print without replacing the empty yellow cartridge which i dont use. Shouldnt i be able to just print in black and white without buying a new yellow cartridge? many thanks

This printer series that all cartridges have ink and all cartridges are functional.

True, some printers support using black-only when the tri-color cartridge is empty -- this is not one of those printers.

932, 933, 950, 951-959, 962-969 cartridges:

Ink is required in all cartridges to print and to perform periodic servicing to prevent clogs and other print quality issues. There is no way to bypass this feature.

If one of the following messages displays, replace the indicated cartridge to continue printing.

• The cartridges above must be replaced to resume printing

• Cartridges Depleted

• Depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing

This series is a "top shelf" product line -- it does come with requirements not found in "lesser" models.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 9025 that I purchased in 2019 -- really nice printer -- it is fussy about being kept clean and it wants everything "just so".
