Hi @Bob188kh,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A "missing or failed printhead" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8615 can be troublesome, but there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer: Sometimes, simply turning the printer off and on can resolve temporary issues:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Check the Printhead: Make sure the printhead is properly installed:

  • Open the printer and carefully remove the printhead.
  • Check for any protective covers or tape that might still be attached.
  • Reinstall the printhead to ensure it is seated correctly.

Clean the Printhead: If the printhead is dirty, it can cause poor connectivity with the printer:

  • Use the printer’s built-in cleaning function (consult your printer’s manual for specific steps).
  • If the problem persists, manually clean the printhead. Remove the printhead and gently wipe the contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Avoid touching the nozzles.

Replace the Printhead: If none of the above solutions work, the printhead may be damaged and need replacing:

  • Printheads can be purchased from HP or authorized retailers.
  • Follow the instructions provided with the new printhead for installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
