Photosmart Plus B209a-m
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble connecting my new router to my printer to print wirelessly. I have a very old Photosmart Plus B209a-m which did very nice wireless printing with my last router. When I try to connect using Wifi Protected setup, the Linksys Velop router and the printer don't communicate at all (I have tried several times and restarted everything lots of times). I have used both PIN and push button method. I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and tried using their suggested method to connect while using a USB cable.

When I get through the setup software, it tells me I can't get setup software for this printer.

I've also explored the HP utility which has a section for wireless connection. However the HP Auto Wireless Connect in the HP utility does not detect the printer either it gives spinning wheel of death. It can only detect my printer when I connect with a USB cable. The printer is transmitting a network called hpsetup, but connecting to it is not helpful so far. I would love to connect via ethernet, but my printer has no ethernet port. That's how old it is.

I can print using a USB cable. I printed out a network configuration page, and my home network is being detected by the printer, but I just can't figure out how to get them to talk to one another. I have restored network defaults on the printer several times. The router has the latest firmware. I know it's a really old printer but I'd love to get it up on the network again. Can anyone help?

Any chance your new router transmits wi-fi on 5GHz? The printer supports 2,4GHz wireless only, and can't connect to 5Ghz wifi.
