My printer had not been used in a few years (I was using my roommates printer) .
Now I need to use mine and the black ink is not printing. I don't get a warning saying
out of ink but if I print in black and white only I get a blank sheet.

Hi @KarRph,
A warm welcome to HP Community!
Since you haven't used the printer for sometime, it's possible that the printheads are clogged. Power resetting the printer and then performing an automated/manual cleaning may resolve the issue. Here is how to do it:
Please ensure the printer is up-to-date with its firmware. If you are unsure, you can download and install the latest firmware update from here.
1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door
3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)
4) Clean the ink cartridge, refer to solution 4 from this document.
5) Plug the power cord back into the printer
6) On the printer control panel, touch the Setup icon , and then touch Tools.
7) Touch Clean Cartridges.
If issue persist, then try a manual printhead cleaning, instructions on how to manually clean a removable printhead can be found here.
Instructions on how to resolve Black or Color Ink Not Printing can be found here.
Let me know how it goes!
