When nothing is actually printing I press the power button, it says shutting down. Then after its "shuts down" it just restarts.
Tried all the usual: Reset, power off reset, check drivers etc etc. And no power on/off schedules set (although I have tried that as a possible workaround with no success - in fact that doesn't work at all)
HP helpdesk was most unhelpful as insisted on me trying what I told them I had already tried. I even sent them a video showing the powerdown & start up again - no response.
Only way to turn it of is either
a. Turn it off a second time when it has not printed anything in that power on session. That works about 30% of the time.
b. Power it off at the wall switch which is not a very satisfactory solution (power point is difficult to get to).
This has occurred since the first day I installed this printer (Oct 24)

I think you mean the 9120e
There is a new firmware release, Dec 13, 2024. Maybe it will help?
Did you register online with HP and sign up (accept) or reject the subscription service?
There is either a problem with the printer or
There is not enough information to help you.
This explains how to use the EWS which can provide better error information
Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
The modem / router can wake up a printer that is sleeping but, unless I am mistaken, cannot keep a printer from turning off.
The EWS will allow you to set a sleep time. Pick the smallest sleep time that is listed.

Yes sorry it was a typo & is a 9120e printer. All my 6 current & active HP devices are registered & as a retired employee & ITIL Service Manager for HP I always accept all drivers from HP.
As I said I installed latest firmware so currently on : 6.23.2.13-202411250708
Defect only seems to occur when you have printed in a session and wish to turn the printer off. If you just power it up then after its settled down , power off again, it behaves.
Note: this also happened with the original (out of the box) firmware so was not introduced by the new version.
