HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer

Using a smartphone, IOS or Windows, before each page printed, the printer seems to perform an init phase and take about 20  seconds before printing a page. The page is printed at correct speed.
Ink cartridges are new. Head cleaned. Firmware upgraded some months ago.

My guess is a bug in the new firmware !

@BIP59, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Printer Connection

  • Wi-Fi/Network Connection: If you're using a wireless printer, make sure the printer has a stable Wi-Fi connection. A weak or intermittent connection can lead to delays before printing. Try moving your printer closer to the router or reconnecting it to the network.
  • USB Connection (If applicable): If you're using a wired connection, check the USB cable. A faulty or loose cable might be causing communication delays.

Reset Printer Settings

  • Sometimes, a reset can help clear out any lingering issues with the printer’s memory or settings.
    • Go into your printer settings via its control panel (or using the printer's web interface if it’s networked).
    • Look for a "Factory Reset" option.
    • This can reset any printer-specific settings that may be causing delays.

Check for Print Spooler Issues (Windows)

  • On a Windows PC:
    • Open the "Run" dialog (Windows Key + R), then type services.msc and hit Enter.
    • Locate "Print Spooler" in the list of services and restart it.
    • Sometimes, a stalled spooler can delay the printing process.
  • Also, check for any pending print jobs that might be in the queue and cancel or clear them if needed.

Test with a Different Device

  • To rule out whether the issue is device-specific, try printing from a different device (another smartphone or a computer) and see if the delay persists. If the problem is only with one specific device, the issue might be with its print settings or the communication between the device and the printer.

Print a Diagnostic Report from Printer

  • Many printers allow you to print a diagnostic or status report. You can often find this option on the printer's menu. This report can help identify any issues with the printer itself, such as paper jams, low ink, or other hardware-related issues that might be causing the delay.

Reinstall Printer Drivers (Windows)

  • Sometimes, reinstalling or updating the printer drivers on your computer can resolve printing issues. Visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers for your printer.
  • On Windows:
    • Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
    • Find your printer under Printers and right-click to uninstall it.
    • Restart your computer, then reinstall the printer driver from the official website or use the CD that came with the printer.

Printer Queue or Print Jobs (iOS/Smartphone)

  • On your smartphone, go to the printer settings and check for any jobs in the queue. If there are jobs stuck, cancel them and try printing again.
  • Ensure that your phone’s Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection to the printer is stable if you’re printing wirelessly.

Update Firmware (if available)

  • Even though you mentioned the firmware is up to date, check the printer manufacturer's website again for any newer firmware updates. Sometimes newer updates resolve bugs that cause delays in printing.

Paper Type and Print Quality Settings

  • Check that the paper type and print quality settings match your paper and printing needs. High-quality printing modes or heavy paper settings can cause delays as the printer processes the job.
  • Try printing with default or lower-quality settings to see if the issue persists.

Check for Third-Party Software Conflicts

  • If you're using third-party printing apps or tools (such as Google Cloud Print, AirPrint, or custom print drivers), check if they might be causing the delay.
  • Temporarily remove or disable these third-party apps and test the printer's performance using the default printing method.

Check Printer Logs (If Applicable)

  • Some printers have built-in diagnostic logs that can give you insights into why the printer is taking longer to start printing.
  • If your printer supports web-based management, you can log in through the printer’s IP address and check the logs for errors or performance issues.

Try Printing a Simple Document

  • To rule out an issue with the document itself (such as an unusually large file or a complex image), try printing a simple text document to see if the issue still occurs.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Hello

From the list I will pick :

- reset factory settings

- update drivers if I see a more recent one.

Printing was fast until the last firmware update last summer.

And when I send any document to print, i hear the mechanic doing some cleaning for exactly 50 seconds before printing starts.

Seems a bug OR maybe the printing head mechanism lifetime is over a certain limit and this delay/cleaning/movements are added to push for buying a new device ....

Will test, I am afraid a factory setting. Pretty sure many are having the same issue.

Hi @BIP59,

Resetting to factory settings and updating drivers are good first steps to try and rule out software issues.

The delay could also be a sign that the printer is compensating for something mechanical, like wear on the print head, or possibly just a quirk introduced by the firmware update.

It’s understandable to be wary of the factory reset, as it could be a bit of a hassle with settings and preferences. 😬

Give it a shot, and hopefully, it’ll resolve the issue! 🤞 If not, you might end up finding a workaround that doesn't require a whole new printer just yet. You’ve got this! 💪
