HP Office Jet 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Officejet 8600 is not longer printing yellow correctly.  I have unplugged the device for 60 seconds, run a printhead cleaning (does not show yellow at all), and changed the ink twice to no avail.  Other colors print fine.  Yellow areas print in a graytone with a slight yellow hue.

Any suggestions??

@Theoldlady,

Good day. Thank you for stopping by the HP community. I will be happy to assist you here.SUperb troubleshooting and great description of the issue, Kudos to you for that.

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Are you able to make photocopies in yellow directly from the printer?

Let's try these steps although it looks like a hardware issue with the printer.

Now check if it gets resolved. If the issue continues, then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... ( HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality)  if it has not yet been done by you.

Evaluate and analyze the print quality report for faded and missing colors. Identify the faulty ink cartridge.

Then replacing the ink cartridge should fix the issue if the printer's hardware is not faulty.

Otherwise, the printer needs to be replaced. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Check your forum private message box in the upper right corner next to the bell icon.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

I have the same problem. I changed all the ink cartridges, but still no yellow. DavidSMP, I followed the steps you gave but still no yellow. Does this mean the printer needs to be replaced? I purchased a three year "Care Pack", but that has expired also. Please advise.
