My Officejet pro 6978 will not print a document from the USB port. It will only print photos.  After reinstalling my OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) a few months ago, I have not been able to connect computer to printer wirelessly.  I suspect this is due to the lack of support for Windows 7 drivers.  At any rate, the USB device is plugged directly into the printer's port.  It is reading photos, but no documents.

@Rebsarge, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print documents from the computer. This seems like an issue with the driver. Connectivity has nothing to do with it as you are able to print photos.

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Use Microsoft Uninstaller to uninstall the HP printer driver.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
