I have not used this printer in a long time. I was going to give it to my father. I went to turn it on and the error message of the Carriage Jam and I need to clear the paper jam. I searched everywhere and there is no paper jam or peices of paper. I hoop the printer up to my printer and open up the app. I then trouble shoot my problem. I try every solution with no luck. I do also have the problem that if i hit ok and try to so to set up and try to print or do anything the printer will turn its self off completely. I have mover the Carriage and it moves fine and nothing is blocking it. Please help. I am out of warranty.

Welcome to our humble abode, the family and tech-friendly house of HP Forums!

I'll be your host for the day, they call me the Riddle_Decipher.

Have you attempted to reset the printer to resolve such issues?

Did you check if the print diagnostics page works?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Solution one: Turn the printer off and then on again

Follow these steps to reset the printing mechanism by turning the printer off, and then on again.

Step 1: Turn the printer off and then on again

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  2. Wait 60 seconds.

  3. If you disconnected the power cord, reconnect the cord to the rear of the printer, and then press the Power button to turn on the printer.

       NOTE:

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash and the carriage might move.

  4. Wait until the warm-up sequence finishes before you continue.

Step 2: Print a Printer Status Report

Printing a test page verifies that the hardware functions correctly.

  1. Load U.S. Letter or A4 size, unused, plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the control panel, touch the Right Arrow ().

  3. Touch Setup ().

  4. Touch the Down Arrow () to scroll to Reports.

  5. Touch Reports, and then touch Printer Status Report. The Printer Status Report prints.

  • If these steps resolved the issue and the test page prints, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue with the next solution.

  • If the test page does not print, continue with the next solution.

I have done all the solutions on that page. As soon as it starts back up every time it goes back to it and when I try to print the test page the printer will turn itself off. I unplug it and plug it back in and it will automatically turn itself back on and return to the error.
