My brand new HP officejet Pro 6830 printer repeatedly "gets ready to scan" moving the scan head into position over and over whenever it's turned on. What's going on?

Welcome to the HP Forums @jporter0,

I saw your post about your Officejet 6830 that tries to initialize a scan when the printer is turned on, and wanted to reach out to share my suggestions with you.

Try a power reset  to begin, and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to a wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the unit.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the unit.
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

When the reset is done, try making a copy, print, and scan again, and let me know if you see any issues with these functionalities. If you notice any error codes, include them as well!

Hit the "Accept as Solution" if the issue has reached a resolution! Click the thumbs up below to like my post or show thanks to me for lending a hand! 🙂

Good luck 🙂
