I am trying to print ordinary typed documents with normal type sizes and margins. One a few random lines, the first or last letter is distorted, drooping downward. When I retry, the same drooping occurs, but not in the same places. Otherwise, the print quality is excellent.

Hi @Ed2112,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing distorted letters at the beginning or ends of some lines when printing with your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-In-One Printer, there are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check the print settings: Ensure that the print settings are configured correctly. Make sure you're using the appropriate paper size, print quality settings, and paper type settings for your document. Incorrect settings can lead to printing issues.
  • Clean the printhead: Over time, the printhead may accumulate ink residue or debris, which can result in distorted printing. You can try cleaning the printhead using the printer's utility software or through the printer's control panel menu. Consult your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to perform a printhead cleaning.
  • Align the printhead: Misalignment of the printhead can also cause distorted printing. Most printers have an option to align the printhead, which ensures that the nozzles are correctly positioned. Look for the printhead alignment option in the printer's settings menu or utility software and follow the on-screen instructions to align the printhead.
  • Check the ink cartridges: Low or faulty ink cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues. Verify that the ink cartridges have sufficient ink levels and are properly installed. If you suspect a faulty cartridge, try replacing it with a new one and see if the issue persists.
  • Update printer drivers and firmware: Outdated printer drivers or firmware can sometimes lead to printing problems. Visit the official HP website and check if there are any available updates for your printer model. Download and install the latest drivers and firmware to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Try different paper: The type and quality of paper you use can affect print quality. Ensure that you are using the recommended paper type for your printer. If you're using specialty paper or paper that is too thick, try using standard printer paper to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
