It isn't allowing me to print anything at all. It will copy, scan and print the cleaning pages but other than that it will not print a normal page with or without color. I have tried cleaning, resetting, restarting even factory reset it and still not is printing. The paper comes out but it's a blank paper I've already wasted a ton of ink that I just recently bought and installed not sure what to do here. Anything helps.

Hi @Lifesagamble369

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you

I'm sorry to hear that you're having such trouble with your HP DeskJet 8020 series printer! Since your printer is able to perform other tasks like copying, scanning, and even printing test pages but not normal print jobs, it suggests that there could be a problem with the print settings, drivers, or a deeper issue with the printer’s software or hardware.

Let's work through a few troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer Status and Print Queue

Sometimes print jobs get stuck in the print queue and can cause issues.

  • Clear the print queue:
    1. Open the Control Panel on your computer.
    2. Go to Devices and Printers.
    3. Right-click your HP printer and select See what's printing.
    4. Cancel any print jobs in the queue, then restart your computer and try printing again.

2. Check Ink Cartridges

Even though the printer was able to print test pages, it's still important to make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and not dried out. You mentioned you've recently replaced the ink, but let's confirm the following:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly.
  • Check the ink levels: Even new ink cartridges can sometimes be faulty, or the ink may be low. You can use the printer's display or the HP Smart app to check the ink levels.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they're firmly in place.
  • Try printing a diagnostic page or another test page through the printer’s control panel.

3. Perform a Printer Reset (Hard Reset)

Although you mentioned you've done a factory reset, sometimes a hard reset can help clear out deeper issues.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Check Printer Drivers and Software

There might be a conflict or outdated driver causing the issue.

  • Update Printer Drivers:
    • Go to the HP Support website and search for your HP DeskJet 8020 model.
    • Download and install the latest drivers and software for your printer.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click the HP printer and select Remove device.
    3. Download and install the latest driver from HP’s website and reconnect the printer.

5. Perform a Printhead Cleaning

Even though you’ve done cleaning, it's worth checking the printhead to ensure that it's not clogged:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
