@rightpeg, Welcome to HP Support Community!
To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Does this issue persist when you make a copy from the printer?
Have you installed the full feature software on your PC?
Is it an issue with just one application or all applications?
Check for the settings-
- From windows > goto All programs > HP > click on the folder for your HP Printer
- Double-click Printer Actions, and then double-click Set Preferences. The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.
-
Click the Paper/Quality tab.
-
Click Advanced. The Advanced Options window opens.
-
Under Printer Features, make sure that Print in Grayscale is set to Off.
-
Click OK, and then click OK again to return to your document.
-
Try to print the document again.
If the issue persists, try following the troubleshooting steps from this document.
Keep me posted.
Cheers 🙂

several months ago it gradually quit printing color. So recently I replaced all cartridges and the print head with genuine hp parts. I have been through all the trouble shooting steps and still will not print color. only black. The software package has been installed and I uninstalled it and re installed . It shows all the ink levels correctly and it tells me the print head has no problem. Is there any possibility that the ink lines would be plugged and how can they be opened?
