I got a new ink cartridge, inserted it, and wanted to print. But the printer does not recognize the cartridge and said there is no cartridge in the printer. I thought there must be something wrong with the cartridge, so I went back to the store and was given a new one. But this one too the printer doesn't recognize.
I did everything the website recommends: checking, reinserting, cleaning, but nothing works. Any ideas?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you're getting Incompatible Ink cartridge on your HP DeskJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution. I'll need a few more details:
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges?
Have you tried to update the printer firmware?
Have you tried to use the old ink cartridges and check if that works.
This looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer, however, I would suggest you try these steps first.
Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Once done, restart the printer.
For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Alternatively, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP DeskJet 3630, 4720 Printers - Ink Cartridge Errors
If you have tried the steps suggested and still having the issue. As we diagnosed and found it is a hardware issue with the product. I will share you few details through a private message about the service options dedicated to your product, please watch your inbox for more information.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Thank you very much for you reply. I'm afraid I already know the cause of the problem.
When I went to the store, I looked at all the tags at the rack with cartridges. I found the right one and grabbed a box from that spot. I didn't think to check the box to see if it was the right one.`I paid for it and took it home. I opened the box and inserted the cartridge in the printer. Which then didn't work.
My son came over to see if he could help and he saw that I had the wrong cartridge (301 instead of 302). I went back to the store, and yes, the cartridges were in the wrong place. I couldn't return the cartridge, because the box is already opened.
Since it was an XL cartridge, i learned a very expensive lesson. Unless, maybe ...... there is a way to use it after all? The cartridge does look exactly like the other one and it does fit in the printer. Is there any way to get it to work?
