HP ENVY 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP ENVY 7640 that had been working fine for a while. I have been using the printer cord and don't use any wireless or wi-fi services. Documents I try to print will be stuck in the queue and will say error. I tried deleting the documents from the queue menu but when I try to print something it still says "Error printing on HP ENVY 7640 series".

It doesn’t matter whether you are using the latest printers compatible with Windows 10 operating system or all in one wireless printer for Windows 10 PC, somehow the Printer is in error state problem appears on almost all brands of printers.

I have also faced this annoying error a week ago and thankfully making few changes in the Port Settings through Device Manager helped me in this situation. Here's how to fix Printer in Error State:

  • First of all, open Device Manager.
  • Click on View menu and then choose "Show hidden devices".
  • Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) and right click on Printer Port then select Properties.
  • Now, go to the Port Settings tab and then select “Use any interrupt assigned to the port” option
  • And also check the “Enable legacy Plug and Play detection” box.
  • Finally, click on OK button to save the changes and then restart your PC.

This action should fix Printer in Error State in Windows 10 system.
