HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

My printer has not been printing the correct colors. For a document that has purple in it, it is coming out pink. I chatted with someone last week and we did all the cleaning/troubleshooting and nothing helped. They sent me brand new cartridges but it is still printing pink, so the new cartridges did not solve the issue.

Hi @Maggie012,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is still not printing colors correctly, even with new cartridges, the issue could be related to the printer’s color calibration, printhead, or software settings. Here are a few steps that may help.

Run a Printhead Alignment and Color Calibration:

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance and select Align Printhead and Color Calibration. This process ensures that the printheads are properly aligned for accurate color output.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Sometimes, outdated or corrupt drivers can cause color issues. Uninstall the current drivers and download the latest version from the HP website for your model. Then reinstall them to ensure compatibility and proper color management.

Check Color Management Settings:

  • If you’re printing from a computer, check your printer’s color management settings in the software. Ensure that any color adjustments are set to "Automatic" or "Default" rather than "Manual" or custom settings that could be causing a color imbalance.

Perform an Advanced Printhead Cleaning:

  • If regular cleaning didn’t help, try an advanced printhead cleaning. This option is often available in the Printer Maintenance menu on the printer’s control panel.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve stubborn issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Test with Different Document Types:

  • Print a test page directly from the printer’s menu or use a test document with different colors. This can help determine if the problem is with certain colors or if it persists across all colors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the reply. I had already tried several of these things. I tried them all again and my printer is still not printing correctly.
