My printer says printer failure. Says turn off. Then on. I do that. Doesn’t help.

Hi @Karees,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "printer failure" error on your HP Photosmart 7520 can be caused by several issues, including internal hardware problems or software glitches. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds to allow the printer to reset.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams inside.
  • Remove any stuck paper carefully.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • On your computer, go to Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners in Windows 10/11).
  • Right-click on your HP Photosmart 7520 and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any pending print jobs.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer’s ink cartridge access area and make sure all cartridges are properly installed.
  • Ensure the cartridges are not dried out or empty.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for firmware updates using the HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart app.
  • Install any available updates, as they may resolve the issue.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the official HP website. It can help diagnose and fix common printer issues.

Factory Reset: If none of the above solutions work, consider performing a factory reset:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore or Restore Defaults.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
