HP ENVY 4527 All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.14 Mojave

My printer will not complete a job. It cancels it spontaneously midway through and stays “cancelling” for ages. Then error code displayed as in subject. I’ve tried rebooting. I’ve turned off power for a while then restarted. I’ve turned off router and WiFi and restarted. I cannot update my Mac’s OS because there is essential software on it that won’t run with later versions, sadly and therefore I cannot download and  use the hp app to diagnose from my Mac. I’m trying to do that from my iPad but it brought me here! Expired warranty. What do you recommend? Would someone be able to update the firmware for me remotely or externally and it run OK again? Or has it committed suicide on me?

many thanks

@GMuzzer, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue with your HP ENVY 4527 printer even without updating your MacOS. Let’s break this down step by step, starting with some common troubleshooting steps:

Clear the Print Queue

Sometimes, the print queue gets stuck, which can cause issues like the one you’re seeing.

On your Mac, open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP ENVY 4527 printer from the list.

Click Open Print Queue.

If any jobs are stuck, select them and click the Delete (X) button to cancel.

Restart Your Printer

It’s good that you’ve already rebooted, but let’s try this a bit differently:

Turn off your printer.

Unplug it from the power outlet for at least 30 seconds to fully power it down.

Plug it back in and power it on.

Check for Network Issues

You mentioned turning off the router, but let’s double-check the connection:

Ensure your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

You can print a network configuration page from the printer’s settings menu to see if it's properly connected to your router.

If it’s connected over Wi-Fi, you might want to try connecting via USB (if possible) to see if the issue is network-related.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

It could be worth reinstalling the printer drivers on your Mac:

Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Select your HP printer and click the minus sign (-) to remove it.

Then click the plus sign (+) to add the printer again. macOS should automatically download the correct driver.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
