I installed HP ink cartridges in my printer. It is now stuck validating. I have shut it off and unplugged it. That didn't do anything. I took the cartridges out and put them back in. That didn't do anything. What else can I do?

@FoxTrap, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer stuck at validating!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e printer is stuck in the cartridge validation process. Since you've already tried restarting and reinserting the cartridges, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can follow:

1. Check for Protective Tape

Make sure the plastic protective tape on the cartridge’s electronic contacts and nozzles has been completely removed.

2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the gold-colored contacts on both the cartridges and the printer.
  • Let them dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridges and power the printer back on.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Support and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer.
  • You can also update it from the HP Smart App under Printer Settings.

4. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • If you're using refilled or third-party cartridges, they may not be recognized properly.
  • Try genuine HP cartridges if possible.

5. Perform a Hard Reset

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

6. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to:
    • Setup (⚙️) > Printer Maintenance > Restore
    • Choose Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.

Let me know if it helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
