Unable to print / scan after recent 'critical update' from Windows. It appears the updated printer drivers (F4200 all-in-one officejet) are incompatible with the 4215 model (for which support apparently is still being provided- meaning it was not on the published discontinued list...). I'm running 8.1 @ 64 bit & had no trouble with this printer until Windows downloaded the F4200 drivers. Checking w/ HP's support website the only avialable drivers are F4200 as well.
Anyone having similar problems? Any solutions???
Thanks!!

Hi @JFHLA,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand that you are having issues while installing the OfficeJet 4215 on the Windows PC.
I did go through the software and driver page and found that there are no full feature software available for Windows 8.1. So I would suggest here is to install the printer drivers using Built-in drivers.
I would recommend you use the Windows built-in drivers to tackle this issue. Windows 8.1 OS comes with the built-in printer drivers. Simply turn on the printer and connect the USB cable from the printer to the PC. The drivers will be installed in 2-3 minutes. Go to Control panel - Devices and printers to check the printer entry and make it as default printer if needed.
Check http://hp.care/2nxKJv8 for additional instructions.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thank you for your reply Jeet. I've already tried what you suggested: plugging the printer cable into the PC, wait for the drivers to load, & confirm that the printer icon appears in the active device screen. Yet the printer fails to print or scan... Any other suggestions?

Hi @JFHLA,
I would like to suggest one more step try and fix this issue. Go to http://hp.care/2m8j4zu and follow the steps to install an Alternate printer driver.
If the issue persists, try using the HP Deskjet 5550 or HP Deskjet 990c printer drivers.
If you don't find those drivers as well, click on http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2009/07/4188_bacd1413e93b4a6362d9a2c... to download the zipped file format for the Deskjet 990c printer. Make sure you extract the files to a known location. (Preferably not to the downloads folder. There are chances for to get deleted)
You will need to use WinZip or any other unzipping programs to extract these files. Once extracting, add the printer from Devices and printers, and click on have CD. Browse the location to the extracted folder and select the "inf" format file. Check the fig below for instructions:
Once you have added the printer make sure to change the port of the printer as suggested in my previous post / link to add the alternate drivers.
Let me know if that works!

Hello Jeet. Really appreciate your commitment to helping me resolve this issue. Here's what happened: I had been using a USB extension cable w/ a multiple USB socket add-on thru which the printer was connected to the PC. I disconnected the expansion unit & plugged the printer cable directly into the extension cable & all of a suddenly the printer came to life with all features available!
It appears the expansion accessory had a faulty socket. Problem solved.
Super impressed w/ HP's dedication to customer support.
Best.
