Hello, I am looking to get the latest printer driver for my HP Inkjet C1700 to use with my Imac OSX 10.6.8
I looked on Hewlett Packard support site and it says driver download not available and i should ask on Forums here. I have a driver at moment but it is not letting me chose print quality and paper type when I am printing so I hope I can find a better driver.
Can anyone help me with a link to the driver I need please?
Thank you for your time.

Hi,
The HP Color Inkjet cp1700 is not supported on Snow Leopard, therefore the generic driver is limited..
You may find the following lists by both HP or Apple, non list your printer model:
https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT6198
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01664444
You may try installing the 3rd party GutenPrint driver, it seems to support teh CP1700 and may provide you more options:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php
To install it use the following installer:
Once done go to Print & Fax, click the plus sign and select your printer. click the prin using menu and click on Select printer software, then select the CP1700 driver by Gimp / Gutenprint and press Add, then check if it may provide you better results..

Thank You Shlomil. I followed your clear instructions & installed the Guten driver software. It works grand, unfortunatly it gives me the same print options in my Photoshop CS5 as my previous driver. But thank you for helping me so quickly & thoughtfully clear! If I had no driver I would now be delighted to have one that at least works!
I dont know why they cant include obviously required options when printing as Print Quality & Paper Type. Hewlett Packard should update a driver so the customers who still use the printer they bought off them can continue to print properly as their operating systems develop. Abandon your customers and they will have to abandon you.
Anyway have a great day and thaks for helping me Shlomil!

Hi again Shlomil, I took another look at Printer Features in the options when printing. I dont know if I just missed this in the Driver I had before but I dont think it was there. Anyway on the Driver from Guten you gave me a link to there is Paper Type & 3 types of Print Quality settings available in Printer Features which I accessed by clicking layout in the window that opens when I clicked Print in Photoshop.
So, thanks a million Shlomil you have completly solved my problem. I recomend your solution links to anyone who finds this with the same problem as me. The Guten link also contains Drivers for a wide variety of HP & all the other brands of printers I know of, so its a really great link for anyone looking for a driver!
Its 6am here in Ireland but I go to bed finally now happy & content, for tomorrow I print at full quality!!
Thank you Shlomil.

Hi again Shlomil & to anyone else who might understand whats going wrong with my driver & printer.
I installed the 'Guten Print driver' for my 'CP 1700 Inkjet HP printer' last night & when clicking 'Print' the dialogue window's 'Printer Features' look good 'Color Precision', 'Print Quality', 'DPI Resolution' 150, 300 or 600dpi,'Paper Type' ect. so, relieved I went finally to bed last night thinking I was set to print at best quality today.
But now today I'm actually printing and the color is hardly coming out, its virtually B/W & its printing two side by side half sized images instead of the one, they are also cut off to white page halfway down. The Black Ink is over saturating the print & veiling over a lot of image as well... its an absolute disaster!
I tried scaling back in 'Color Management' from 'color sync' to 'Vendor' - No change.
I then also switched 600dpi back to 300 - No change
I then tried scaling back all quality settings - No change.
----------------------
So, I have switched back to another Driver I got last night from Apple Support in your first link Shlomil, I think, called 'Generic PCL Laser Printer' (my printer is Inkjet but it said compatible)
This finally printed the image full right size not in double half sizes. BUT, its almost a Black ink block of print that is wet & the ink darkens my thumb when I rub it. No color is printing, its total B/W and only a faint darkened trace of the image I'm trying to print is visible under this almost total black!
A couple of weeks ago I bought new HP ink cartridges not generic refills or anything, they cost me 160.00 euro but I was happy to have good quality reliable ink. It has been printing fine in the last 2 weeks before I installed this new Guten Driver last night.
Hewlitt Packard should have workable up to date compatible driver software for all their sold printers. They sold me new ink for my CP 1700 at the exorbitant price of 160.00 euro no problem but writing the few MBs of driver software to safely print best quality prints with their product is not an essential requirement of this printer company??!! Come on!
I really do need to get this work done, I am losing a lot here if I don't get it done & in time & now I have no working printer driver!
Can anyone diagnose what has gone wrong and please offer a solution?
I now have lost the working but quality limited Driver I had before last night.
The two new Drivers I downloaded last night are absolutly not working at all.
I need a working Driver for my Inkjet CP 1700 Printer & my I Mac operating system is OSX 10.6.8 snow leopard, does anyone in Hewlitt Packard or anyone else reading this have one please?
Sorry for big type but this is an emergency for me and my work.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I discovered that its the 'Media Type' (Paper Type) under 'Printer Features' where the crazy malfunctions to my prints are occuring when using Gutenprint Driver for my CP 1700 printer. 'Plain','Bond' & 'Transperency' paper selections are safe to use. Its the 'Premium' & the 'Glossy Photo' which make the disaster crazy print results.
Using the Plain my prints are coming out ok, slightly better on High Quality.
But the colour is much paler than it is on the Photo shop document I'm printing from. Perhaps I will try recalibrating my screen to match my printer tomorow. I turned the saturation up way to high on the Photoshop Image & then tried printing and it came out a bit more saturated so maybe syncing the calibration will work. But its perhaps to far out of sync to gain a working comprimise. I.E. if I am turning saturation to high up to compromise & match the print to what I want, the colour will be to much overheated on the screen & so poorer quality.
So, Gutenprint Driver does work, but is much paler bad color quality as I can discover so far. Also under 'Printer Features' the 'Media Type' is a complete malfunction bomb disaster if you select to print on 'Premium' & 'Glossy Photo' paper options.
I see that Hewlitt Packard have drivers for Mac OSX 10.5 so perhaps I could unevolve my Imac operating system in order to have a more certified working driver available for my printer. But that will probably invalidate & mess up all my other software for all my other work facilities. HP is so negligent in their Drivers. No Drivers for OSX 10.6 or OSX 10.7 or OSX 10.8 or OSX 10.9 or OSX 10.10 or OSX 10.11 or OSX 10.12!!!!!?????? They sold me their overpriced ink at 160.00 euro for this printer no problem! But a few MBs update to operate the printer on the evolving operating systems is not a company priority?! Come on FIX IT.
Also I bought new ink because HP installed a chip that 'Expired' my ink even though it was still half full!
At the moment I'm feeling as soon as I use up my ink or maybe even before I will check out buying another brand of printer not Hewlett Packard.
Once again, If HP do have another Driver I can use on my IMac OSX 10.6.8 for my HP inkjet CP 1700 printer I would be delighted to be let know about it.
Thank you for your time whoever reads this.
