HP DeskJet 2742e All-in-One Printer

I can never just print a job. I ALWAYS have to restart the printer, reconnect it to the internet, unplug and plug it back in, it’s ALWAYS something. This time it’s saying I’m not connected to the internet on the app, but on the network status page that printed out it says connected. Why can’t I just print any time without all of these ridiculous issues? I

Hi @Fanniepants

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with continuous connectivity and reliability issues with your printer, especially when you're just trying to get simple printing done. Given the recurring nature of your printer’s issues, I’ll walk you through a few potential solutions that may help stabilize your connection and performance. Let's work on identifying and resolving the core issues.

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Connection

It sounds like the printer may be losing its connection intermittently. A fresh network setup might help eliminate the recurring issues.

Steps to reset the printer’s network connection:

Reset Wi-Fi settings on your printer:

  • Open the Settings menu on your printer’s display.
  • Navigate to Network Settings or Wireless Settings.
  • Select Restore Network Defaults (or similar) to reset the wireless configuration.

Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network:

  • Go back to Wireless Setup or Wi-Fi Setup and connect the printer to your network.
  • Ensure that you enter the correct Wi-Fi password. Your printer should confirm once the connection is successful.

2. Update Printer Firmware

Sometimes connectivity issues are resolved with a firmware update. It's possible the firmware on your printer is outdated and causing connectivity issues.

Steps to update firmware:

  1. Check your printer's firmware version:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance or Tools and look for a Firmware Update option.
  2. Manually download the firmware from the HP support website if the printer cannot update automatically:
    • Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer’s model (e.g., HP OfficeJet 6950).
    • Download the latest firmware and follow the instructions to update it via USB or network connection.

Updating the firmware may fix bugs that are causing the intermittent disconnections.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
