HP Officejet 8600

On my 3rd Comcast Modem/WAP.  Never had an issue before but this time as I try to attach to the new network the printer searches for the network, flashes number really quickly and then tells me to "turn of the printer using the power button" which I have done but no change.  I have done a hard reset by unplugging and draining all power for 2 minutes.

@VirginiaCat,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the Printer was working fine?
  • Is the router configured for 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Take care.

Cheers!

1) First, it was working fine on the old network and WAP.

2) It is a dual router.  I am assuming I would have to "select" which network IF I could get to that point on the printer

3) The printer is not connected to a computer.  Only connected to wifi in the past.

4) If you are asking about our laptops, we use Windows 10..mine is professional my wife's is Home version, and my daughter uses a MacBook Pro.

Quick question.  I renamed my network the same name as I had on the old network.  Could that be confusing the printer as I go through trying to find the network?

@VirginiaCat,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the information.

I recommend you make sure that the router is configured to 2.4GHz frequency. Then follow the below steps to reset the network settings and then try connecting the printer to the network.

1. Touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.

2. Touch (right arrow), touch Setup, select Reports, and then select Print Network Configuration Page to print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!

Sorry but restoring the network defaults did not work.

When I ask it to "Search" or network connections under the setup wizard the appears to search but suddenly stops, flashes a number very quickly ( B68XXXXX) that I cannot see all of it then tells  me to power off the printer and start over.

I wanted to supply a bit more information after the network default reset not working.

When the network search  shuts down it the screen flashes to a blue screen with the symbol of the power button on it and has the numbers "B8969500" under the power button symbol.  After that quick flash is when all the buttons and screen start flashing and tell me to power off and power back on.

I have a 40 second video of this process if I had an email to send it to.

Hi @VirginiaCat, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As the issue still persists after restoring the network settings to default.

Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.

Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here

Refer this article to further troubleshoot connection issues after replacing the router. Click Here

Also, if the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try performing a semi full reset on the printer. As the steps to perform a semi full reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer.

I will share you the steps over a private message. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂
