I changed my WiFi name and password for security reasons. Now the printer needs to be reconfigured for this new information. I read that I need to reinstall the software, so I tried that but it says I now need a USB cord to complete this. The printer did not come with one and I do not have one that fits the connection on the printer. What are my options?

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Excellent description and good presentation of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
- DId you check the printer’s user guide?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
You have 2 methods to connect to the wireless network. One is to install it as a USB connection and to change it to a wireless connection. As you don't have the USB cable try these steps:
- Restore network defaults on the printer from this user guide link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04403354
- Refer to page 73 for instructions.
- To restore the printer to the original network settings ▲ On the printer control panel, press and hold the ( Wireless ) button and the ( Cancel ) button together, approximately five seconds, and then release the buttons.
Then refer to page 43 to set up the printer on the wireless network via your router.
- To set up the wireless connection from the printer control panel Ensure your wireless router or wireless access point has a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button (a button with the icon or is labeled “WPS”), and that WPS is enabled with WPA encryption.
- 1. From the printer control panel, press and hold the ( Wireless ) button for three seconds. The Wireless light starts blinking.
- 2. On the wireless router or wireless access point, press and hold the WPS button for three seconds.
- Wait for about two minutes.
- If the printer connects successfully, the Wireless light will stop blinking and remain lit. 3.
- (for Windows OS😞 After you have completed the wireless setup, add the printer in your computer by choosing Add a Network Printer from Control Panel, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
This should do the trick for you.
To find the WEP or WPA or WPA2 password of your printer check this link:https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-6230-eprinter-series/5390318/model/5390319/doc... (Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password)
Also, check this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-6230-eprinter-series/5390318/model/5390319/doc... (HP Printers - No Connection after Router or Wi-Fi Settings Change) which might help.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
