Hi @Thepaddock,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

mark (!) flashing, it typically indicates an issue with the cartridge or the printer recognizing the new cartridge. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the new cartridge is installed correctly into the printer. Open the printer cover, remove the cartridge, and then reinsert it firmly back into its slot. Make sure it is securely seated.

Remove Protective Tape:

  • New cartridges often come with a protective tape or seal that needs to be removed before installation. Check to ensure that all protective packaging materials have been removed from the cartridge.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect the contacts (copper-colored dots) on the cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts.
  • Allow the cartridge contacts to dry completely before reinstalling it back into the printer.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
  • Allow the printer to fully initialize and check if the issue persists.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
  • If updates are available, follow the instructions to download and install them. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.

Reset Printer:

  • Perform a printer reset to clear any temporary issues.
  • Consult your printer’s manual or HP’s support website for specific instructions on how to perform a reset for your model.

Replace Cartridge:

  • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, try replacing the new cartridge with another new cartridge. Sometimes, cartridges can be defective out of the box.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
