@chokes,

It looks like you were interacting with @Flower_Bud, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.

After reviewing your post thoroughly, I see that you have exhausted all possible troubleshooting and still having issues with printing in color from your HP Printer.

Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

As you have mentioned in your post that you are able to make a color copy from the printer, this definitely looks like a software or driver conflict. In this scenario, I would suggest you could try to uninstall the printer from the root level and then reinstall it by following the steps below:

  • Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.
  • If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:
  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Please click here to download and install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

@chokes

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your printer does not print color photos,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you checked the print settings?

Are you able to print color documents?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

Are you able to make a color copy?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Step one: Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Down Arrow  to scroll to Tools, and then press OK.

  2. Press the Down Arrow  to scroll to Print Quality Report, and then press OK. The printer prints the test page.

Image: Example of a Print Quality Diagnostic report with no defects.

Once I have the information, I'll help you further with troubleshooting steps,

Keep me posted,

Cheers!

1. Where do I check the print settings? Found nothing in HP Tools. Cannot find a menu to select colour print or black print only.
2. It does not print my coloured document ie Letterhead with small blue flag
2a. It also does not print a jpg photo.
3. Gave up trying to use HP online troubleshooting. Everything EXCEPT what I am trying to fix.
4. Yes, I am able to make a colour copy.
5. Printer Assistant is useless
6. All I have is a vertical row of symbols:- Power, LCD display, RedX, Paper?, Wireless, Color Copy, B&W.
Where is this control panel?

Have spent too much time already trying to fix this problem. Quite frankly it would be cheaper for me to throw this unit away and buy another brand. My old HP worked just fine. None of this endlessly searching online to fix such a small matter.

"this definitely looks like a software or driver conflict". You were correct. Complete uninstall (again) & re-install (again). I suspect the source of the problem is Networking. I usually run my VPN from Brussels, so I have my local ISP + VPN networks and HP direct connection is conflicting with one of them when installing.

Thank you and I am marking this as “Accepted Solution”
