Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Installed a new router, connected laptop and printer to internet (same channel), but they won't communicated.  I tried to follow the steps here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/Printer-won-t-connect-to-computer/m-p/6546795, but could not remove the driver as indicated in step 9.  SHould I remove driver AND package?  All I get is a message: "Unable to remove HP Photosmart 6520 series x64, Type 3 - User Mode driver. The specified printer is currently in use."

Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

It is possible to remove the printer from Devices and Printers, though in this case, doing so may not provide the results you need since the rest of the setup may be tangled.

Generally, it is enough to uninstall the existing printer software, restart the computer and then download / save / install the Full Feature Software for your printer (and add a final Restart after the software is installed).

Printer Software – Uninstall Existing Software

  • If things are already in a "tangle", Restart the computer and log in.

Don't open things like document editors, games, or other programs - keep it simple...

  • Make sure the printer is switched on and on your network.

For example, clear and then set the printer wireless options on the printer panel (for those printers that have this option), or (if you printer supports it) connect the printer to your network using an Ethernet cable.

Uninstall existing printer software from Programs and Features

Method One - Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Method Two - Settings > Apps > Apps and Features >

Search or Scroll down

Uninstall the printer software

After the software is removed, Restart the computer and log in

If printer software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Standard - Manual Installation of the Printer Software

Download-Save-Install the Full Feature Software or HP Easy Start Printer Setup for your Operating System version

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in
