Microsoft Windows 11

I'm in the process of switching to a new HP laptop running windows 11 pro.  I have a Laser Jet 1022 that works just fine when plugged into my old HP laptop running windows 10.  When I attempt to print to this printer from my new Laptop, the orange light flashes and it will not print until I press the diamond button on the printer.  It then prints one page, then begins flashing orange again until I press the same button again to print page 2.  I've tried downloading the printing tool from HP's website and nothing seems to correct the situation.  When I hook the printer to the old laptop, it immediately works just fine.  I can't seem to find an actual driver.  Is there a solution to this issue?

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP LaserJet 1022 Printer series supports Windows 11.

However, here are some troubleshooting steps that should help:

Solution 1: Install Windows 10 Drivers in Compatibility Mode

Since your printer works fine on Windows 10, try installing the Windows 10 driver manually:

1. Download the HP LaserJet 1022 Windows 10 Driver:

>Go to HP support website and search for "LaserJet 1022."

>Download the latest Windows 10 (64-bit) driver.

2. Install the Driver in Compatibility Mode:

>Right-click the downloaded driver file and select Properties.

>Go to the Compatibility tab.

>Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 10.

>Click Apply and OK.

>Right-click the file and select Run as administrator to install it.

Solution 2: Use the Generic HP PCL5 or PCL6 Driver

Windows 11 may not correctly recognize the LaserJet 1022, so you can try using a generic driver:

1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

2. Click Add a printer > The printer that I want isn’t listed.

3. Select Add a local printer with manual settings.

4. Choose Use an existing port and select USB001 (or the correct USB port for your printer).

5. Click Windows Update to refresh the driver list.

6. In the Manufacturer list, select HP.

7. In the Printers list, select HP Universal Printing PCL6 or HP LaserJet 1022 (if available).

8. Click Next and complete the installation.

 Solution 3: Disable Bidirectional Support

Some older HP printers have trouble with bidirectional communication on newer Windows versions:

1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 1022 printer and select Printer Properties.

3. Go to the Ports tab.

4. Uncheck Enable bidirectional support.

5. Click Apply and OK.

6. Restart your printer and try printing again.

Solution 4: Check Windows Update for Optional Drivers

Windows 11 sometimes offers additional drivers through Windows Update:

>Go to Settings > Windows Update.

>Click Advanced options > Optional updates.

>Look for HP LaserJet 1022 under driver updates and install it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
