HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3835 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good afternoon all.

I have recently bought an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3835 All-in-One printer  and I've completed the setup successfully. Having HP printers and products for over 20 years, I already knew how to configure them.

I'm usually printing only in black ink.

When I go to the printing preferences, in the Paper/Quality tab, I select draft and press the advanced button.

Although there was always an option to print using "black ink only" or "print in grayscale", I cannot see this now.

I have installed the software from the original source, followed every instruction, but I cannot get this work properly. The only method to print in black is to remove manually the color ink cartridge, but this is not a permanent solution.

In case you select to print PDFs, you may choose to print only in black. But there is no such an option for Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc) in printer properties before you proceed to the final step and press "print". There is of course the "page setup" but it does not help much.

Furthermore, I cannot make my printer print by default in Draft quality as I did with every other product I had. It prompts me to everyday printing and I have to re-select draft printing.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Try following below version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.

Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy and check.

Thank you for your reply.

I had already used HP Print & Scan Doctor from the downloads section, but I will try the version you sent me too.

I do not have problem printing. Everything works as it should.

I have problem with the printing preferences, as I cannot select black ink only option in the advanced options in paper/quality tab. It seems like this option does not exist at all.

After I follow your advice, I will report again.

P.S. I could not understand your quote "try printing using the newly added print queue copy". Which is the newly added print queue copy? Is this a term I am ignoring?

After you follow this version try printing, also check if you see another copy added for your printer and try printing with it too, under your printers list.

Thank you for your solution! It worked.

HP & Scan Doctor run some tests, installed some updates and after restarting the computer and checking the printer's printing preferences, the extra options appeared.
