From my reading through forum questions, I'm seeing this come up a lot, but I'm not seeing a direct response to this issue -- everyone's just changing their cartridge and moving on.  I'd like to NOT print multi blank pages in a job before I get a clue to change the cartridge.

What's the fix for this please?  I'd like to get a low ink warning prior to printing.

I can offer the following limited advice to help you manage your ink supplies.

Assuming the Full Feature Software and the Firmware for the printer is installed:

Printer Assistant - Set Ink Alerts

Open (Double-Click) the Printer Assistant shortcut icon on your Desktop named for your printer >

Click the Estimated Ink Levels icon >

tab Advanced >

CHECK "Show printer ink alerts as they occur..."

Click Close

NOTE about "Show ink alerts as they occur..."

  • This setting can cause an inordinate amount if disruption if you don't change the cartridge when "warned".
  • If the pop-ups / notifications bug-your-trip, change the setting back to "Show all printer alerts only when I print..."

Printer Assistant - Check Estimated Ink Levels

If you just want to check the current estimated ink levels

Open (Double-Click) the Printer Assistant shortcut icon on your Desktop named for your printer >

Click the Estimated Ink Levels icon >

tab Estimated Ink Levels

Close to exit

If the printer is on the network, use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to manage / configure available settings in your printer.

Open Printer Assistant > tab Print, Scan & Fax > Printer Home Page (EWS)

OR

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

EWS - Set Ink Alerts

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

tab Tools > Product Information > Ink Settings

Excerpted from the page:

You can change the threshold at which the printer provides the "Low on Ink" notification. This change will affect the notifications provided on the printer's control panel display, in the HP software installed on your computer, and in email alerts (if you have requested to be notified by email).

Select a Default or Custom setting. For Custom settings, enter a percentage between 1-99%.

EWS - Check Estimated Ink Levels

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

tab Tools > Product Information > Ink Gauge
