HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

This printer is less than 6 months old, when I attempt to print on 4x6 glossy HP Print paper from tray 2, it does not print on front but I get colored smears on the back of the print paper. I have run a Print Quality Diagnostic, and there are no problems. This function worked before, but has stopped. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, not on your drop down menu, but running on macOS Sonoma 14.2.1

Hi @Eschie521,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e when attempting to print on 4x6 glossy paper, resulting in colored smears on the back without actual printing on the front, can be frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Check Paper Settings: Ensure that the paper size and type settings on the printer match the glossy 4x6 paper you're using. Incorrect paper settings can lead to printing issues. You can adjust these settings through the printer's control panel or your printing software on your Mac.

Paper Loading: Make sure the glossy paper is loaded correctly in tray 2. The glossy side should be facing the correct direction according to your printer's specifications. For most printers, the glossy side should face down, but it's best to check your printer's manual to confirm.

Clean the Printer: Sometimes, smears on the paper can be caused by dust or debris inside the printer. Use the printer's built-in cleaning function if available. You can also manually clean the rollers and the area around the ink nozzles with a soft, lint-free cloth. Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles directly.

Update Printer Firmware and Software: Check if there are any available updates for your printer's firmware or the printer software on your Mac. Outdated firmware or software can cause compatibility issues. You can find updates on the HP website or through the HP Smart app. Click here

Printer Preferences: Within the printing preferences on your Mac, ensure you're selecting the correct tray and paper type for your print job. Sometimes, settings can revert or change, causing unexpected results.

Driver Reinstallation: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer drivers on your Mac. This can help resolve issues caused by corrupted or outdated drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
