HP Office Jet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I started having printing problems one day ago, No black would print while the color test pages showed very faint results. I purchased 2 new cartridges for the 4650 printer, one black XL and the other multi-color XL and installed them both. The printer test pages printed solely in black; the HP logo which used to be predominantly blue was also in black.

I uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled the driver. As it went through the installation process, it produced the "welcome page with the printer's email address in color. The printer test page was still in black only, while the alignment page had the appropriate sections in color.

I tried printing a document that had both color and black sections. It only printed in black. I printer a Clip Art of the US flag. All the stripes were black.

I'm at a loss. I believe all the settings are correct. Any help would be truly welcome.

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy?

Refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4650-all-in-one-printer-series/5447930/document/c0... for Resolving Copy Problems.

If the copy is working fine follow the below instruction.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

If the issue persists, Delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4650-all-in-one-printer-series/5447930/drivers to download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Try to print.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went through all the steps. Connectivity is not a problem. I removed all traces of the printer and ran printui.exe /s. I downloaded and installed the Full Feature Software and Drivers. When it finished, the "Congratulations" page printed with the appropriate blue color. I copied the page and it too was fine.

I then printed a .pdf that had several colors including black. It too printer correctly.

As I also could not get the automatic duplex function to work, I printer the same .pdf file, this time in duplex. The print was only in black and the duplex showed a graphic to reinsert the page into the output slot. I did and pressed continue. The second page was printed (in black) on a separate piece of paper.

Thinking that perhaps there was a problem printing the .pdf, I entered a simple phrase in Word on several different lines, but used a different color for each one. Once again, it printed them all in black.

I tried the copy function choosing color once again and it worked as expected. I scanned the copied page to my computer and it also was saved with color.

It appears that I still cannot print anything with color and that the duplex function is still not working correctly.

I understand it's a lot to ask, but if have the time, I'd like some more help.

Try installing the Windows Built-in Print Driver and check how it works.

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 for Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.

If not Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

Click here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-acc...

Then install the driver and check if it helps.

while attempting to install the windows driver, a popup box asked for WPS code. Since I couldn't find it, I went to the printer and used the wifi wizard to connect. I started to enter the router's access code. A ERROR CODE 0XBFFFFF3 appeared. I turned the printer off and restarted it. The same thing happened. Is the printer ready for the junk yard?

HP Recommended

@LesLV I suggest you click here to identify where the WPS code can be found, and what to do if you can't find it,

also is that error appearing on the printer or the computer you are installing the device on?

If its the printer, here's a step by step guide to assist you: click here

I followed all the steps and discovered that my WPS code was the first part of the email address. Unfortunately, it game me a much more complex address than my previous one.

I appreciate all the help you provided. The printer is now printing in color and I can print duplex if I want.

The " Print and Scan Doctor" report to have fixed all problems but nothing changed. I reinstalled the full driver for the printer and still no difference. When I try to fax and select my machine, I get a message that the computer cannot connect to the fax.

Using HP Smart I can scan to my computer but it is very different from the way it worked before all my problems appeared.  There was a separate app that let me scan without going through the whole procedure. When I try to download the Universal Scan driver, it won't download.

Any help you can provide will certainly be appreciated.
