Officejet 6958 suddenly stopped printing and copying.  First got a paper jam message - there was no jam.  Then instructed to turn machine off and on which I did - still nothing.  Now I have a message "Printer Failure 0x6100004a" and am instructed to contact HP.  I tried the virtual consultant online - no help.  I got to the instructions to let the carrier come to the center and remove the print cartridges but the carrier did not come to the center and I could not manually move the carrier to center.  So I'm thinking there may be a problem with the printer head movement system?????

Hi @PAS49,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are receiving a "A Printer Failure 0x6100004a" error message.

Try the below suggestions -

Make sure the cartridge access door is closed

To avoid errors or other problems, make sure the cartridge access door is fully closed.

  1. Open the cartridge access door.

  2. Remove the paper path cover, and remove any torn paper, labels, or other obstruction that might be inside.

  3. Reinsert the paper path cover, making sure it is fully inserted into the printer so that it does not interfere with closing the access door.

  4. Close the door, ensuring it is fully seated.

Clear the error message

Remove the ink cartridges and retart the printer to clear the error message.

  1. Press the power button to turn off the printer.

  2. With the printer off, open the cartridge access door.

  3. Turn the power on and wait for the carriage to move.

  4. With the printer on, unplug the printer from power.

  5. Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside. It might be necessary to manually slide the carriage to access the cartridges.

  6. With the access door still open, turn the printer on, and then wait for the printer to complete the start-up sequence.

  7. Once the carriage returns to the center and the error is clear, install the ink cartridges. If the error does not clear, repeat these steps up to three times.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
