My OfficeJet 5255 was printing 2-side (duplex) fine for years. Then I started to get a message when printing from my HP laptop that has Windows 11 Home installed. The message told me to flip over the paper. Mobile printing from my phone still prints 2-sided. Printing to my Brother laserjet prints 2-sided. 2-sided copying works. I used the HP detect tool which only gave Windows 10 as a compatible OS (it may have been auto-detecting my laptop rather than the printer). The HP webiste (https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-officejet-5255-all-in-one-printer) lists Windows 11 as a compatible OS. . I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled the software. I was able to print, but now the document I was previously printing from Word no longer gives me the option for 2-sided printing and I cannot print up a print queue for this printer. I appear to have lost the ability to print 2-sided. I noted on the product page that this printer is discontinued. Has HP stopped supporting this printer for updates to Windows software and now the 2-sided printing is unsupported for the latest updates to Windows 11? That is what appears to be the case.

New information: From another computer with Windows 10 Home I have also lost the ability to print 2-sided to the OfficeJet 5255. Mobile printing from an Android cell phone continues to work printing 2-sided. My HP laptop will print to a different printer (Brother Laser Printer) 2-sided. It appears that this is only an incompatibility between Windows and the OfficeJet 5255.

In most cases a Windows update has disabled duplex printing. Do the following on your computer. Go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties" from the middle of the drop down menu. The click on device settings and scroll down installable options till you see duplex unit and make sure it says installed. If not change it to installed by clicking on it and using the drop down menu.

Somehow the problem self-resolved. The options you shared were not available for my driver (Microsoft IPP Class Driver), but I now have the option to print 2-sided. Must have been some system update that fixed it.
