I was able to duplex print from Word on Mac Sierra, and it seems that after a printer firmware update WBP2CN1716AR, duplex printing is no longer available. I am not positive that was the change, but it's the only thing that really changed.

Driver version is 4.3.0.

Word, Preview and other apps all show a Double-sided checkbox in their printer "Layout" section, which is ignored when printing, so a three page document prints on three sheets of paper, not two.

Some HP web docs: e.g.:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-LaserJet-Pro-M1217nfw-Multifunction-Printer-series/4292048/m...

suggest going to the Printer Driver Options  (System Preferences|Printers and Scanners|Options) and checking "Duplex Printing", but that option does not appear in the driver Options tab, only "Optional Paper Input Tray" appears as an option.

I have also followed instructions for setting Duplex always defaulted on in CUPS, which also didn't help.

I've reset the printer system in OSX.

Suggestions would be very useful.

Thanks in advance!

-Tom

Tried deleting and installing drivers per instructions below, without success in getting duplex working.

In the end, I deleted the driver, and let the Mac select the driver automatically. This resulted in the HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8710-AirPrint driver Version 2.0 being installed.

Despite web reports that the AirPrint driver would not duplex, all the features including Duplex printing seem to now work properly.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi! @tbuchler, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have issues duplex printing from your printer after upgrading the firmware to your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Try uninstalling the printer software from your MAC and install the latest printer software and check if it helps.

Click Finder in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, then open the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder.
If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it, then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, then click Go.
The Printers folder opens.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
Restart the Mac.
Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, then select Empty Trash.

Please update the printer software using this link.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
